Safeguarding Academic Freedom: Navigating Risks in a Digital World. Seminar on Tuesday, June 17th, 2025

Professor Aušrinė Pasvenskienė at VMU University (Kaunas, Lithuania). The seminar is reserved to Department of Management.

  • Date: 17 June 2025 from 12:30 to 13:30

  • Event location: On line with Teams video conference and in presence on room 2, via Capo di Lucca, 34

During the seminar, the evolving landscape of academic freedom in the digital era will be discussed. As technology continues to reshape higher education, we are at a pivotal point where traditional notions of academic freedom intersect with both the opportunities and challenges brought by artificial intelligence and educational technology.

During the session, how digital tools are transforming research methodologies, teaching practices, and academic expression will be explored. The double-edged nature of AI in academic writing, the implications of digitalized teaching materials, and the potential standardization of academic output will be examined. The discussion will also address emerging tensions between technological innovation and pedagogical autonomy, as well as new ethical considerations arising from AI-assisted research and teaching.

As these digital dilemmas are navigated, ways to preserve the essence of academic freedom—the right to inquire, teach, and express ideas freely—while harnessing the benefits of technological advancements will be considered. Join us for a discussion as we delve into these pressing issues and work towards finding a balance that upholds the principles of academic freedom in our increasingly digital academic world.
