ABSTRACT:
Due to innovations in digital technologies, organizations that used to practice their business in discrete industries now confront radically transformed environments with new competitors from other industries.
To understand this phenomenon of digital business convergence, I introduced a way of analyzing this phenomenon in the paper, published “Digital Business Convergence and Emerging Contested Fields: A Conceptual Framework,” Journal of the Association for Information Systems (2017) [attached].
Moving forward, it is not surprising to witness many economic, social, and political issues with a digital platform, for example, manipulations of digital companies like Facebook (now, Meta), cybercrimes, fake news during many political elections and even during this global pandemic situation.
I will briefly explain the paper of “Digital Business Convergence and Emerging Contested Fields: A Conceptual Framework” as a background knowledge.
Then, diving into one of research areas resulting from digital business convergence, I will introduce a couple of ongoing research about people’s perceptions on privacy paradox (privacy concern versus self-disclosure behavior) between German and Korean SNS users as well as people’s perceptions on digital green path between U.S.A and Korean users.

SHORT BIO:
DongBack Seo (dseo@cbnu.ac.kr) earned her Doctor of Philosophy and Masters of Science in Management Information Systems from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Prior to pursuing the Ph.D. program, she worked as a software engineer in Silicon Valley and as a small business owner.
Her publications include three books, recently published Evolution and Standardization of Mobile Communications Technology, as well as a class manual and several chapters.
Her papers have been published in many journals (e.g., Journal of AIS, European Journal of Information Systems, Government Information Quarterly, Communications of the ACM, Telecommunications Policy, etc.) and conference proceedings (e.g., International Conference on Information Systems, European Conference on Information Systems, etc.).
Her research interests include the areas of digital innovation, adoption of digital-enabled services from the perspectives of individuals and organizations, organizational standards strategy, business convergence, and analysis of competitive dynamics in rapidly changing industries.
She is currently a full professor in the Department of Management Information Systems at ChungBuk National University (CBNU), Republic of Korea.
