Generating technological impact from scientific research: the role of women

Women and Science

Technological progress is a key driver for the economic development of a country. However, gender disparities exist, thus creating a gender gap. A context where the presence of a gender gap is particularly pronounced is the academic sector, in particular for what concerns the commercialization of scientific results. In order to better understand the magnitude of the gender gap both in terms of research output within the scientific community and of technological impact in the industry, we exploit unique data from the European Research Council and data related to science-based patents.

The team is composed of four researchers from the University of Bologna, combining skills in social sciences and technical skills in data collection through appropriate computer programs:
• Laura Toschi, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation (project leader) - Department of Management
• Federico Munari, Ph.D., Full Professor of Innovation Management - Department of Management
• Herica Morais Righi, PhD, Adjunct Professor of innovation management - Department of Computer Science and Engineering
• Angelo Di Iorio, PhD, Associate Professor of Computer Science - Department of Computer Science and Engineering
