Abstract:

Knowledge transfer (KT) is considered one of the main determinants of business performance and innovation.

In this sense, the use of collaborative networks provides better access to valuable sources of knowledge.

The study of this phenomenon has not often been analysed from an inter-organisational perspective due to the complexity of knowledge measurement.

Although these concepts have been studied over the last decades, it is only in recent years that the academic world has put the focus on the issue.

However, the multiple perspectives from which the phenomenon has been approached have generated the need to deepen the debate with the aim of systematically exploring the research scenario.

Therefore, firstly, we systematise previous literature examining the link between KT and networks, and secondly, we explore the European collaborative ecosystem that drives innovation in SMEs.

Network analysis methods and centrality indicators are applied to identify the main drivers of European innovation in SMEs and to provide a picture of the current landscape of collaboration between European countries.

Finally, a working paper will be presented that seeks to understand whether there is a causal relationship between a better positioning in the European knowledge network and the innovative capacity of regional innovation systems.
