Summer School: The new plastics economy: circular business models and sustainability

The Summer School of the BIO-PLASTICS EUROPE project

A unique summer school experience on bio-based plastics and circular bioeconomy from July 10th to 14th, 2023, in Bologna.

The Summer School is organized within the Horizon 2020 project BIO-PLASTICS EUROPE - Developing and Implementing Sustainability-Based Solutions for Bio-Based Plastic Production and Use to Preserve Land and Sea Environmental Quality in EuropeIt is organized by the Department of Management of the Alma Mater Studiorum Università di Bologna, together with the Department of Civil, Chemical, Environmental, and Materials Engineering, and with the support of Hamburg University of Applied Science, Kaunas University of Technology, Turku University of Applied Sciences, TICASS – Tecnologie Innovative per il Controllo Ambientale e lo Sviluppo Sostenibile, and in collaboration with many experts from industry.   

The Summer School provides an intensive program on the latest developments in the field, including the production and processing of bio-based polymers, their properties and applications, as well as the potential of circular economy and innovative business models to reduce environmental impacts and maximize value creation. It will allow networking with experts and guest speakers, visiting innovative companies and plants, and engaging in hands-on activities and projects with like-minded international participants. 

Admission

The admission is limited to 30 participants who have enrolled for the free and open-access Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) "The new plastics economy: circular business models and sustainability." 

Please, note that before participating in the Summer School, you need to have completed the MOOC program. Please check the procedure below.

Procedure 

  1. Applications by April 30th, 2023
  2. Selection process: candidates will be selected based on their background, motivation, and fit with the program's goals. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in sustainability and the future of plastics and a willingness to learn and work collaboratively with people from around the world. Priority will be given to those candidates who have already concluded the  Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) at the moment of the application submission. 
  3. Feedback to candidates: results will be communicated by mid-May 2023.
  4. Completing the MOOC. All selected participants must complete the  Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) before the Summer School (July 10th to 14th, 2023)
  5. Participating in the Summer School (10-14 July, 2023)
